Bellway achieves goal of raising £4 million for Cancer Research UK
Bellway has set a new goal of raising £5 million for Cancer Research UK after exceeding its previous target.
The Newcastle-based national housebuilder, which adopted CRUK as its partner charity in 2016, set itself the ambitious goal of raising £4 million by the end of 2024.
Thanks to the efforts of employees, contractors and suppliers, that target has been surpassed with the total amount raised by 31 December 2024 standing at an impressive £4,142,621.17.
The company has already turned its attention to 2025, with a series of fundraising events planned as it aims to reach the new £5 million target by the end of this year.
Rodica Damian, Group Deputy Company Secretary at Bellway, said: “Charitable giving is one of the key business priorities of our company-wide Better with Bellway sustainability strategy, which puts people and the planet first, and our long-running partnership with Cancer Research UK continues to go from strength to strength.
“We are thrilled and proud to have surpassed the ambitious target which we set for ourselves in our fundraising mission for the charity. We would like to extend a massive thank you to all of our colleagues, subcontractors, and suppliers whose donations and support have made this achievement possible.
“A special mention must also go to our wonderful Divisional Charity Co-ordinators who have worked tirelessly and with great enthusiasm to organise the many amazing fundraising events that took place in 2024 – from dragon boat races and national step challenges to golf days and so much more.
“We are looking forward to hearing many more inspiring fundraising stories from our colleagues in 2025 as we work towards our next goal of raising £5 million by the end of the year.”
Fundraising events which took place in 2024 included charity balls hosted by Bellway’s North East and Thames Valley divisions and the third annual Hugh Thomas Memorial Golf Day, held by the Wales division in memory of a much-loved colleague who died from cancer in 2022. Employees from Bellway West Midlands completed a 26.7-mile charity walk along a section of the Cotswold Way, while two colleagues from the Woolsington head office – Group Marketing Co-ordinator Amber Britton-Dyer and Group Sales Product Co-ordinator Ashleigh Nithsdale – raised more than £11,000 after completing a hat-trick of running challenges involving the Newcastle Pretty Muddy, Great North Run and London Marathon.
Around 40 Bellway employees will be taking part in this year’s Great North Run, while others will be entering the London, Paris and Amsterdam Marathons. The Eastern Counties division is set to host another Dragon Boat event, the 10th annual Legal Land and Company Secretarial Walk will take place in May 2025 and the Bellway national charity event is due to take place in September 2025.
Stephanie Parsons, Partnership Manager at Cancer Research UK, said: “I’d like to share my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Bellway for raising an incredible £4m for Cancer Research UK.
“Achieving this huge milestone highlights their continued commitment to supporting our vital work. Together we are making a difference. Together we are beating cancer.”
