Mayor of Greater Manchester Visits Bellway's Future Home at Energy House 2.0

Bellway recently welcomed the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, to Bellway's Future Home at The University of Salford’s world-leading Energy House 2.0 to highlight how the city region is leading the UK’s retrofit revolution - and see how infra-red heating could help decarbonise homes that can’t use heat pumps.

Andy was the guest of our project partner Ambion Heating, who have been using our test home to test its infrared panel and dynamic control system - a direct electric solution ideal for homes where heat pumps may not be feasible such as flats or maisonettes. Ambion use infrared heating panels combined with a dynamic pulsing control system that heat the walls of a home to create a heat battery.

Joining the Mayor on the visit, were Bellway's Jamie Bursnell, Group Head of Technical and Innovation, and Mathew McAdam, Managing Director of Bellway's Manchester Division, who constructed our home in the Universities Energy House 2.0 facility.

Energy House 2.0 is one of the largest purpose-built building performance test laboratories in the world, built in 2023 with £16 million of government and industry investment. You can find out more about Bellway's involvement at EH2.0 in Pathway's Future Homes Hub here.

"Greater Manchester is a significant location for the delivery of Bellway homes, and the Combined Authority has its own ambitious Net Zero targets, so the visit allowed us to demonstrate our leadership in this field and how we can work with the combined authority to delivery low carbon homes in the region."

Commenting on the visit, Mat McAdam, MD of Manchester Division, said: "It was great to welcome the Mayor to our Future Home to demonstrate how Bellway is leading the march towards delivering the Future Homes Standard and our goal of reducing our carbon emissions. Greater Manchester is a significant location for the delivery of Bellway homes, and the Combined Authority has its own ambitious Net Zero targets, so the visit allowed us to demonstrate our leadership in this field and how we can work with the combined authority to delivery low carbon homes in the region."
